The great solution shows Venezuelan history through the lens of an older woman forced to leave. The show follows Margarita as she sees the dictatorship of Marcos Perez Jimenez fall and the rise of authoritarianism through Chavez and Maduro. It takes inspiration from my grandmother's story, the only family member still living in Venezuela. All the puppets have a wood-carved head and torso. The legs of the marionettes along with the puppet theater and dress are made from fabric.
A zine distro, created in protest of the food insecurity in the Comart Art building. This building is located off campus (away from any food options), has one barely functioning vending machine and unreliable bus routes. Along with this, all the ceramics, jewelry and metal shop, printmaking and most studio classes are in this building, which requires long hours of work. Instead of selling food, the café sells original zines created by students that offer a large plate of food as a gift at very low prices. This is to foster a community in the building that can help improve the conditions while also nurturing the community.
Girlcache.com was a time capsule blog. Keeping all the "extra" aspects of life that won’t be kept in journals, texts, or resumes that encompass college life in the 2020s. The blog posts centered themselves around the themes of "living", "laughing" and "loving", showing to be able to show current struggles, funny images and love notes . This archive encompasses personal experiences of college aged girl, who develops a program to be able to fix her friends lives, creating the Love, Passion Karma program. This project is meant to be revisited and revised as a growing yet ephemeral catalog.
Love Passion Karma was the last event of the Girlcache.com, when the program is finished. A 3 week experience where each girl participating went through the program and achieved success.
For Love, Nate and Eva met on Week 1 and by week 3 got married in a beautiful ceremony
For Passion section, Maddie went from never touching garage band to becoming a rapper and producer and made three songs, and for week 3 preformed at Nate and Eva’s wedding. (you can listen to her beats here)
For Karma, Zoe started with a self-discovery by making a large collage and discovering how she could help the world, she made awareness and fundraising efforts for drug harm reduction at Nate and Eva’s wedding.
The program was satirized the "one size fits all" perspective of college life while also pushing women outside their comfort zones.
